Nikki's Window

I believe Herron in the essay "Nikki's Window" is trying to show the reader that Detroit, although a rundown, unwanted city, has a history worthy of recognition, as do all cities. He starts off by saying how dirty and awful Detroit is but ends by explaining how underneath the crime and everything bad, Detroit has a rich and very memorable history. Pastness refers to how the city by first glance has not changed very much over the years and still apears as it had in the past. Nostalgia is refering to bringing back a historical feeling to those people who are present in the Greek Town city hall area. Humiliation is talking about the feeling that Herron thinks all people get when thinking about Detroit but i think otherwise, i am very proud of being affiliated with Detroit even through the crime.
